MAWP presumably stands for "maximum allowable working pressure." But this is just a random guess. It could also mean "Middlesex Association of Woozie Plumbers." As to "flat heads... flat heads of what??? You wouldn't mean blind flanges, would you?? Or is it flat-headed bolts you have in mind.

MAWP is the maximum allowable working pressure. The system is a quick opening closure it's similar to a flat head but not welded or bolted it's another mechanism.
