Hello

We are having MOCB(minimum oil circuit breaker) with pressurized nitrogen. There is a debate going on about the sufficiency of the nitrogen pressure and its importance.I read somewhere that it aids in arc extinction. Can any body throw more light on it.

Why have a debate. Your circuit breaker has a manufacturer, right?? Consult manufacturer, do as he says and there is no debate. Simple, is it not??

It is MOCB right?

So the Nitrogen will not directly extinguish the arc, it is the oil which has to do it.

The nitrogen cylinders (at pressure) is used to store energy that will aid the jet (of oil) that has to flow through the open contact to extinguish the arc.
