1999 Honda Accord - No Heat, No A/C

If you don't have a service manual for your car, it would be a good time to pick one up. The previous series Hondas were very simple to remove the heater control panel. Look at the bottom of the dash panel that the HVAC control mounts into. There will usually be two screws holding it in place. As you pull the bottom away GENTLY, look for areas that are resisting being pulled away. The places that resist, are either retained by more screws, or a snap in clip. Just continue to pull and look. When you find more screws, remove them, keeping the screws in groups, according to their placement.

Once you get to the HVAC control itself, look for anything that may have come loose that is causing your problem. If not, you will probably find a steel wire cable that changes the temperature of the air being sent into the cabin. Be careful with this. It can be difficult to remove. Here is where the book would help a lot. Once the cable is removed, the rest will only be wiring, and maybe vacuum lines. Just switch these over to the new control and try it out. Before you reinstall all of the parts, test the new part. If it does not solve your problem, at least you will have most of the hidden controls in your hands to do further testing. Hi, when you say the heater and A/C are not working, can you clarify as to what's exactly going on? Is the blower not working, controls to shift the airflow not working, no cold air or hor air, etc?

Good thought there. We were all assuming that the diagnosis that was made for the OP was correct. If indeed it is just the blower that has stopped, it may just need the blower motor, or related wiring for it. How about it there Mr(s) OP, what specifically is wrong with your HVAC system?

Sorry, I should have mentioned that earlier, the blower, and the fan speed do work, the air coming out of the blower is luke wrm, the rest of the controls are pretty much out.

Another thing to check is the radiator thermostat. From your description it sounds like it is stuck open.

Do you ever cross the border into Broward? I would'nt mind looking at it for you.

Just as a rule of thumb, if you have both AC and heat issues, it is more likely your control module or the electrical circuits associated with it, which is usually expensive and time consuming.

The common standard for control however, is vacuum. So if it is distribution that is the problem, not say, your blower motor or control for that, it may be the unit that switches via vacuum your vent system.

Every car is different, but replacing these units involve usually disassembling a faceplate or part of your dashboard, exposing the two basic connections, electrical and vacuum. The electrical and Vac terminals are "impossible" (ahem) to mix up, and replacement should be easy enough. Usually in my case I have had difficulty in disassembling the dash in the areas I need to access. Otherwise, if you have the part in your hand, the rest is fairly simple, and you should be on your way. (you may need torx screwdrivers)
