CO2 Production Plant - Things to Watch Out For

01/30/2007 2:00 AM

I am looking into possibility of generating CO2 on-site with suppliers like Asco, TPI and Union Eng. for Beverage use (carbonated soft drinks).

What are the key issues that I should look for and any comparison of the suppliers above (pros & cons)?

CO2 is what puts the fizz in the soda. Nitrogen, while producing a fizz, is much different and would not be acceptable in say Coke, Pepsi or other name brand sodas.

First thing that comes to mind is cost. Is it cheaper to produce than transport? With the push for Ethanol (co2 is a byproduct of Ethanol production), I would think co2 would be virtually free with the exception of transporting it.

You might want investigate this avenue. I'm not sure of the EPA regs reguarding co2, but I know the Ethanol industry can't get rid of it fast enough.
