Revolving Platform Update

02/17/2010 5:25 PM

Hi all. Here is as promised an update on the revolving platform. thank you again to all the help and input you guys gave. I will post some more photos of the complete platform in action on stage when time comes. Feel free to ask questions.Still busy sorting out small snags one being how to get it to stop in exactly right position. Also, it turns a bit too fast but that I am sorting out by reducing the voltage. Third problem is this thing is very heavy. How to get wheels on it without making it even more heavy to carry when it is broken up into two sections. Here is a picture of how the main construction came out. It still has to be covered with wood. Bottom line is that it works. The construction on top of the platform is an expandable projection screen. On the left is the skirt construction that still needs to get a rolled tubing on top.Till later. Regards oomS.

For a drive, you could use a roller chain welded to the perimeter of a large disk. a small sprocket attached to a gear reducer engages the chain and moves it along. It is the same concept as a rack and pinion, except in a circle.

I can't tell from the picture how much clearance you have from the circumference of the traction tire and the gear head. Reduction of the traction tire diameter will reduce your speed if the motor control does not reduce it to suitable levels. A brake on the gear motor will stop and hold it in the position desired. Address this with the motor supplier. Most manufactures offer them as an option. They are just a bolt on option. What equipment is available to move it?

To stop the motor quickly use a circuit that puts a short across the motor when it is not being driven. that performs avery effective brake.
