Lost Password - Can't Log On

02/19/2010 10:45 AM

Dell System DM051

While tinkering with my PC, I changed my password, and even thought I jotted it down, I still managed to misplaced and forget my new password.

Dell System DM051

Intel® Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHZ

Ram= 1.5 G

I have 2 DVD devices, and 1 external HD

My operating system is Windows XP.

So far I try the following:

I type every combination of passwords that I am familiar with, no luck.

Down loaded a free password recovery tool into a CD, then I went into the Bios and reconfigure so it will boot from CD, no luck, and the system was looking for boot utility. This is an area where I am at a disadvantage; I don't this often enough to feel good about.

Note:

I don't want reformat my PC, unless I have to.

Thanks

I need a password reset tool, any suggestions will be welcome

Thanks

Have a great day

I don't think anyone is gonna tell you how to do it.

Take it to the shop.

Don't forget your password next time.

Many times, I find that the "Administrator" user does not have a password. If that is so here, you can boot tapping the F8 key and select safe mode. The "Administrator" or "Owner" and all users with administration privileges will be offered for login.

Good luck!

If you do a search on youtube for windows password reset you can find several walk-throughs. Take your pick of which one you want.

Try using the service from windowspasswordforgot.com I got several computers from a business and they were locked and the passwords were not available. downloaded the program and it resets all passwords to null. I think it costs about 30$ US.

I was impressed and still have the disk I made. So if I need it again I would imagine it would work on other machines. Was for windows XP.

Hi,

You have several options, but the principal choice is do you want to know the password, or do you want to reset it. There are many internet sources which will wipe the password and ask you for a new one, but if you want to know the password, then go to:

www.loginrecovery.com

Their service is clever enough to take your uploaded LMHash and NTHash codes and reveal the passwords you put in.

You only pay a small fee if the system unlocks your passcodes successfully. Depending upon the complexity and number of passwords involved, the online process usually takes 5 to 30 minutes.

Hope this helps

I recommend to contact Dell.

don't mind:

Normally lost /stolen systems need PW to boot & to help to find /Work around is not recommended.

Despite all the good hints, and good efforts from this forum, I couldn't come up with any combinations to unlock my system, so I purchased, and down loaded a Windows Password Recovery Tool 3.0 reset tool, user friendly, for the price of $19.00, this did the trick. If anyone is interested, or has the need, they are SWReg, Digital River, and here is the https://www.cardquery.com/

Thank you all for your expertise

Have a great day

As a network administrator, I am always using PCUnlocker Live CD (http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html) for resetting lost Windows password. It should also work for your case!

what OS are you using... if XP, you can try a work around if the default administrator has no password on the user accounts screen, press CTRL+ALT+DEL twice type in administrator and press Enter. once you've successfully logged in, go to START->run then type 'control userpasswords2' then press Enter click on the account you want to reset the password then click the 'Reset Password' button. you will be prompted to type a new password. leave it blank if you don't want to have a password. log off and try your account again.

After two days researching, the password reset process can be done in minutes if you found the right program to do that. UUkeys has a nice windows password recovery tool and you can use it to burn a reset disk. Then reset the login password with the disk.
