Welded PTFE Tubes

02/22/2010 10:53 AM

Hello all, I have a project were I need PTFE tubes. The outer diameter is 42 mm, the inner diameter 40 mm (wall thickness = 1mm). I found several suppliers which are able to deliver the extruded one, but I'm looking for the (cheaper) lengthwise welded tubes. Does anybody know, where I can find such a supplier? Thanks and regards tischil

Tischil,

Is your application mechanical, electrical, optical, thermal or chemical?
What pressure and pressure cycling is involved?
What temperature and temperature cycling is involved?
Are the PTFE tubes confined within a metal surround?
Is it possible to use other fluoropolymers than PTFE?
If you could be less mysterious and more descriptive, it may be possible to assist you.

Thanks for fast answers!

I need this tubes to design a heat exchanger. The material must be resistant against aggressive chemicals (flue gas of waste incineration plant) and should be temperature resistant up to 250°C. No other material than PTFE can be applied. The thickness of 1 mm is very important because the heat transfer efficiency. In the past I used the extruded one, but know I'm looking for the mentioned welded tubes. I heard about it and I can't find it. Hope you can help me.

PTFE tubing is rated to 287 deg. C and PFA teflon tubing is rated to 260 deg. C.

I have always used the corrugated PFA tubing for my heat exchangers. As far as PTFE goes I have never heard of PTFE being welded only extruded, also PTFE will be less efficient then PFA for heat transfer.

Tischil there was a company called Process Supply in Charleston WV. They could weld/fab pure PTFE. This company was bought by Edlon, who in turn sold this company to Resistoflex Marion NC 828/724-4000. Maybe they can help you.
