New Environmental Engines...for Aircraft!

07/05/2005 3:28 PM

With all the talk of automobiles creating smog to linger in our lower atmosphere, the Spanish have been hard at work with some of their European partners to develop jet engines that significantly reduce the all around pollution that constantly impacts our environment.
Here are some stats they believe they can achieve:
Reduction in consumption /reduction in CO2 emissions: 12%
Reduction in NOX emissions: 60%
Reduction in acquisition cost: 20%
Reduction in life cycle cost: 30%
Reduction in development cycle: 50%
Improvement of reliability: 60%
Think of all the planes that fly daily around the world and directly impact our sky's! Maybe we should start "up there."

Small potatoes

The problem is the amount of pollution created by jets is minuscule compared to the amount generated by cars and trucks. Aircraft are already hugely more efficient than automobiles.
The problem is that no one wants to tackle the car problem.
