One possibility is power factor correction.

Why capacitor bank not used for power factor correction in transmission line , whether reactor can use both side of feeder

There are various reasons the reactors are used in transmission lines. They are used in two fashions: series reactor and shunt reactor.

Series reactors are used to limit short circuit levels, inrush currents and harmonic filtering.

Shunt reactors are used to compensate ferranti effect for excessive shunt capacitance on long, lightly-loaded transmission circuits and compensate the leading reactive power of the lines (power factor correction).
