Calculating Line Current

03/01/2010 12:53 AM

Calculate the line current drawn by a three-phase synchronous motor operating with a 0.84 leading power factor, if when operating at unit power factor the motor draws a supply current of 1200amperes.

We don't do homeworks here.

Study your text books.

Hi, I'm not looking for anyone to do my homework. I have listed 5 different examples. I'm simply looking for some help here... put yourself in my position, I study correspondence and only get to tafe one or twice a year. Everything else I do at home... The text book I have is "Electrical Principles for the electrical trade" 5th edition and it only gives you basic formulas...

1428.57 A. You will need to do some reverse engineering to figure out how to get there.

I have gione through all your questions, and unfortunately these are very basic. What I will advice you is go through some library or bookshop (that's what I used to do in fact the second hand book shops were our favourite- we were as usual short of cash)

Leaf through pages, find a book that looks comprehensible to you .Buy that for your study.

I always preferred one book with less maths more english first, able to explain things conceptually. This forms the basis for your study. Once you are through this, make second visit, buy one now with more analysis and maths- but mind the language- it should not make you sleep in mid session.

You have some good sites too like this one

However for us grey haired people, nothing beats the papyrus. Still I buy the costlier paper books than the much cheaper digital version. Always there s fun in keeping notes in margin and highlighting important areas with highlighter (in our time it was only underline or brackets in margin, higlighters arrived only a few years back)

Go through, and ask the questions in basics, but not the solutions and steps. We may help you (depending on the mood at that moment )

And as far as your all questions are concerned, all are like the first one, already answered by me.

Look as system approach,

Energy/ Power (In) -> Efficiency -> Energy/power(Out)

Did you try the site I have posted? it has down-loadable (pdf) links, and it is a bit easy on you.

Next time you visit QL, try the advice given.

I will try to post some more links as I get, till then try the one.

Hope that helps.

What is the exact level of the course you are doing ? is it graduation level ie BE ?

Tou can also try this web , it is one of the best in India, my alma mater.

This is also good and if you go to the right side, (branch) there you can see a lot of course lecture notes.

There you can select electrical enginnering and you will get a lot of subject notes from basic electrical technology to electrical machines to advanced.

(I am trying for all the officially free web links)

MIT also has a link only the courses there are more for the cooked ups (opposite of novice=raw? )

In fact I usually scan around the college sites for informations you may check simply by googling the college name/ opening their websites. Most (not the profitable ones) will have a lot of free coursewares on net.

Even the Military (DOD) , CANDU etc have the free literatures on engineering (may be more for their maintenance technicians)

In fact you can search for OCW (open course ware) these are all free, download the ones that appeal to you. (Better you do the search than me )

Best of luck with your future.
