Generator Capability Curve

02/01/2007 7:20 AM

Respected members,

I want to know how to develop soft copy of 60mw, 11.5kv ; 50hz; 0.9pf generator capability curve for incorporating in plant D.C.S. Can anybody help me?

You may need to supply more information: the obvious answer to developing a soft copy of a graph is to select "print". By DCS do you mean Detector Control System or distributed control system? Interesting assortment of electrical values.

Dear mr. Blink,

thank you for your reply.

using generator parameters like MW, MVAR, POWER FACTOR, TURBINE CAPACITY, STATOR CURRENT , IMPEDANCE VALUES, THE CURVE TO BE DEVLOPED IN WHICH THE GENERATOR CAN OPERATED WITHIN TURBINE CAPACITY, STATOR CURRENT RATING, LEADING MVAR AND LAGGING MVAR CAPABILITY LIMITS.

USING SUITABLE TRANSDUCERS in C.Ts and P.Ts circuit, out put of transducers will be fed to the indicating system. depending on loading of generator, operating point will appear on the screen over which this capability curve will be insctribed. then operator will know whether the generator is operating within its' capability or not.

WHAT I MEAN FROM D.C.S IS DISTRIBUTED CONTROL SYSTEM

Thanks Electrical Rao:

That makes it more clear. I think of mw as milliwatt, and MW as megawatt. I also think of pf as picofarad. So the combination of high voltage, but tiny wattage, and low frequency but tiny capacitance had me puzzled. But with megawatts and power factor, (instead of milliwatts and picofarads) it makes sense.

Are you looking for someone to develop the entire system, transducers, software and all, or help with a particular part of the system? There are several power generation people who frequent CR4 and could help, I think. You may want to post again, with additional details on exactly what help you are seeking.

Best wishes,

ken

You would get it from the Engine/DG Pakager when they do engine/DG load test in fact they would have generated documents much more then what you are looking at.its not so easy to develop the curve you are looking at in field. It would cost you Heven.&earth

Hi Mr Rao

The Generator Capability curve is made by Generator Manufacturer depending on

Stator Winding Temp Limitation

Mechanical Power capability of Turbine

Stability of Excitation system --Under exitation etc

Please Try to look at it first

Then it is a simple XY plot using a Function Block

First a Graph is made with the curve

Then XY co ordinatos are assigned to MW & MVAR

Let me which DCS you are using i.e SIEMENS / ABB etc

Vijayakumar

THANK YOU Mr. VIJAY KUMAR,

I STARTED DEVELOPING THE CURVE USING THE DATA AVAILABLE. I AM SUCCESSFUL TO SOME EXTENT. OF COURSE MY WORK IS FOR CYL. ROTOR UNITS(TURBO GENERATORS).

EVEN LEADING MVAR LIMITATION ALSO TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. P.F LINES ALSO DISPLAYED. WHEN IT IS CHECKED FOR ITS' CORRECTNESS WITH THE MANUFACTURER CURVE I WILL COME BACK.

Mr. VIJAYKUMAR, CAN YOU PLEASE INFORM, WHERE FROM YOU ARE. I AM IN HYDERABAD AND Ex. EMPLOYEE OF A.P.S.E.B

THANK YOU

RESPECTED VIJAY KUMAR GARU,

NAMASTE,

I AM HAPPY TO NOTE THAT YOU ARE ACTIVE IN REPLYING TO THE THREADS.

CONVEY OUR REGARDS TO YOUR FAMILY.

SINCE LONG TIME I AM WORKING TO DEVELOP GENERATOR CAPABILITY CURVE. NOW ON MY OWN I DEVELOPED THE CURE FOR CYL. ROTOR GENERATOR. IT HAS TO BE GIVEN FINISHING TOUCHES BY ADDING MORE POWER FACTOR LINES. IN THIS CURVE EVEN LEADING MVAR LIMITATIONS ALSO TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION.
