Windows Firewall

03/05/2010 2:54 PM

Hi all, I have managed to gain access to wireless printing by turning windows firewall off on the computer with the printer attached. I have re-enabled firewall, and once again all access is barred. Which port would I add to the exceptions list to eradicate the problem? It is XP Pro SP3. Thanks, Bondy

Bondy,

What do you use for internet access? If you are on a residential gateway, you normally have a firewall in that modem/router. Windows firewall in that case should be disabled by going into administrative tools>services>windows firewall/ICS<rightclick>>properties>disable. [ICS=internet connection sharing]

Do this ONLY if no other computer accesses the internet or local network through your computer.

Go to microsoft and search for your problem, and see what M$ has to say.

For internet access I have a residential gateway; A Linksys WAG200G. You think I should disable my pc firewall? I had the printer set up working fine before I re-installed windows a few months ago, and since just couldn't be bothered to set it up again

You need to add the printer software to your exceptions on the firewall list, not a port

Find the Cannon or HP, Lexmark etc program on the list on the firewall exceptions list and add it just as you did for your ISP and other software.
