Freeware for Photo Layering?

03/05/2010 1:43 AM

I need to layer some images faintly into the background on a few web sites i am putting together. Does anyone know a good freeware program to do this with easily. I have downloaded a few photo editor freeware programs, but have not found one with which i could adjust the opaqity of the layered images yet. I used to have a program that did this on an old computer, but cant remember the programs name. Thanks

I think Gimp can do this.

I was also pointing o it.

I noticed what is asked for.

Had installed 3 days back tried to work on it but seems to be difficult to get through at this age.

Anyhow trying.

And using IrfanView for a long time & is somewhat conversant on it.

Look on it is it doing some thins the poster needs.

Yes, the gimp allows you to layer transparencies and then merge them.

Pretty sure the degree of transparency can be manipulated as well.

And it's free.

Paint.Net also allows layers. It's not a powerful as GIMP, but a lot easier to learn. And free.

Hi HarryBurt,

I just downloaded it and you're right, it's a lot easier to learn than GIMP. Better, easier to navigate, and more intuitive UI too! Thanks!

Mike

For some things I love IrfanView, but this isn't one of them.

I use ACDSee

There are older versions that are free that can be found on the net where the latest is not free.

You can achieve this on the web page itself using dynamic HTML by setting a different z for each item and controlling the the opacity of each item.
