Asbestos is almost everywhere banned.

Try ceramic fiber cloth. Try on your local - any furnace manufacturer, it is used in turbines especially gas Turbines with almost the same dimensions.

The problem with these global solution is it will be very diluted locally , unless you have some one from Dubai, who is in the field you may not be able to get an address. Better way may be to search yellow pages.

I have to agree with the other posters that you should find a different material. The use that you have described is going to cause fraying of the material and asbestos dust. That's about the worst thing you can do with the stuff. Google "alternate to asbestos cloth" and go from there.

Yes, they used to say "go down to the store room and get some fire blanket" They would roll some A cloth off and cut it. You would throw it across your shoulder and carry it off. Those days thankfully are gone.

Google ceramic fiber blanket or ceramic fiber clothe. These are good and will serve your purpose.

In this Google, you will find suppliers of blankets or clothes.

We regularly buy from quite a few including Lloyd's Insulation, Keld Ellentoft, etc.

Mr.tgasickandar,

I have checked up here in Mumbai and would like to inform you that such asbestos tape of 100x6 mm is available @ Rs.55/- per mtr. You will have to buy roll of 40 mtr. But problem is export of small parcel to Dubai. If you have any one who can buy this roll locally here and send it across to you. Shopkeeper does not do export business.

There are still many things made from Asbestos that aren't banned in the USA. Only thermal insulation and fireproofing forms of asbestos are 100% banned in the USA actually. If you don't believe me go to Lowe's or Home Depot and look at the contents of roofing cements, tar paper, concrete products and many more products.

I had to go to a class and pass a test to become a "competent asbestos abatement supervisor" a couple of years back in order to manage the asbestos awareness program in the paper mill I work at. One of the surprising things I learned from the class is how many companies still put asbestos in products. We made a field trip to a big national building supplier and found over 100 products that have asbestos in them at these stores and it is l100% legal. They are cleaver in that the manufacturers don't usually call it asbestos but rather use a different name that most people don't know like : contains chrysotile fiber Chrysotile is the main form of asbestos used an the most common form found of the 4 different types known. As far as I know they still mine Chrysotile asbestos in Canada and they even have a town named Asbestos in Canada so you might start looking there.

Asbestos is great stuff to add to things to make them stronger, and because it will not burn it adds a nice flame retardant quality to otherwise flammable items and it is the best high temp insulation that you an get. If only it didn't cause the diseases 20 or 30 years down the road such as asbestoses, lung cancer and the rarer very nasty mesothilioma. cancer that one of my instructors compared to the alien popping out the gals chest in the movie "Alien" it would still be used everywhere like it was before the mid 1970's.

I think that Asbestos should be banned but as long as people are making money selling things that contain asbestos I really don't think it will. What is strange to me though is the large amount of people in the USA that really think it is banned here like I did before I took the asbestos abatement supervisor class.

One suggestion I have for anyone that finds themselves exposed to friable asbestos dust situation is to get a water hose and completely soak everything with water to prevent as many fibers from becoming airborne as possible.
