Engineering Resume Resources

03/08/2010 10:54 AM

Anyone have good engineering resume websites or tutorials they can share? I've seen or found sources to write general resumes but it seems that engineering resumes are slightly different in the content they should have.

Also, should the resume cater to the job description or just have a general one?

there are dozens of books on resumés, as well as some great gurus on cr4. (check our cr4 news) I just make my own. I've been to a few courses on job finding, and also english courses of course.. I have received high praise in resumè's I've made for some others, but it is best to be able to sit with the person doing your resumé for a detailed interview...its good practice for interviewing too!

best wishes,

Chris

I don't really see anything in the CR4 news about career related entries.

If you're in the United States, you may want to check the online resources of your state's Unemployment Office or Labor Dept.

New York State has some great resources online. Just do a Google search, or:

http://jobsearch.about.com/cs/newyorkjobs/p/nysdol.htm

We may pay some of the highest taxes in the country, but usually we get great benefits and aid too! You usually don't see this level of help from other states IMHO...... okay, that said, go for it! THE WORLD IS YOUR PEARL!

The link that I provided to you is a fantastic site and has resume and cover letter examples, along with direction manuals, etc..

If you haven't already done so, obtain a copy of "What Color is Your Parachute?" . You can can either buy it or find it at your public library. Amazon.com also has a ton of new and used ones for sale....just be aware that several editions have come out over the years, with the newer ones more helpful IMHO. THIS IS ONE VERY HELPFUL BOOK!!!!! GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, many local libraries, Adult Education programs at your local high school or community college, and even some Universities hold job search and resume writing courses. Additionally, your state unemployment office should have a resource center...most have people that can assist you in resume writing and then later on review it.

Good luck! I've been in that boat several times in the past and it's not easy nor fun!
