Cracks in Metal

Any one please clarify the below

what is HIC, SCC, SSC, SOHIC, SZC, HSC?.

how these cracking are orginating and what are remedies to avoid such cracking?

Hello,

Those refer to commonly seen cracking problems in metal. There are a myriad of origination causes and finding a particular one requires a good metallurgist a lot of work and testing. The same metallurgist will also tell you that some of these, HIC for instance, can be lessened but not avoided. Such a metallurgist might be the professor who assigned you this homework. Have you asked him?

unlikely that I ever will have a need to use metals in these environments, but very good to know, triggred some cautiousness in my thinking.
