Hydraulics courses

02/03/2007 3:37 AM

Does anyone know of a good course on piping/hydraulics through home learning?I have a diploma in physics but only had a tiny bit on hydraulics. In my current job I've taught myself what I need to know (luckily we pump seawater so calculations are easier) but now I'm getting more interested and want to find a recognised qualification I can do without having to leave my job.

Thanks for any help

Unfortunately all I know about hydraulics Ive learnt in University and some local extension courses, and of course from one or two projects I've been involved.

If someone know a good source, I'd also like to know. But I'm affraid that the method do for yourself works better.

Check out the AWWA (American Water Works Association) website. They have quite a few online courses. One you'd be interested in would be the "Hydraulics" 8 hour online course. It'll give you a "ton" of basic hydraulics info that is "very" informative.

Here is the link to the basic hydraulics course:

If you are looking for FREE info, try going to your local industrial supply wholesaler. Their suppliers often have free instructional literature in support of their products. I have taken some of these courses relating to bearings and power transmission components, and I have found them somewhat useful. They are geared toward a sales rather than design perspective, but they do go a little beyond the basics. I would be interested in the results of your search. Please pass along what you find to yerfnad@hotmail.com. Thanx.
