Simulating Syntactic Foam in Abaqus Software

03/11/2010 4:16 AM

it's regarding my final year project...below here are the details: 1. i have a syntactic foam model (platen-foam+shell-platen) which stacking together (can refer to the picture below) were created and assemblied using solidworks, then i imported into .step and .sat. file format. 2. i imported one of those file and simulate in abaqus. (compression testing) 3. i have assigned 2 sections (section 1 as foam+shell and section 2 as platens) 4. assumed that platen was made of steel (E=2e+11Pa, v=0.3) and foam+shell was made of epoxy (E=650e+6Pa, v=0.34). epoxy for section 1 and steel for section 2. 5. pressure of magnitude around 1 was applied on top surface of the platen 6. encastre type fix support was applied on btm surface of the platen 7. all meshing elements (tet element used) were mesh as coarse as possible to avoid long computational time. 8. interaction was selected by choosing the command "find contact pairs" 9. tie contact type were chosen for those contact between shell and foam 10. interaction type were chosen for those contact between platen and shell or foam. 11. interaction prop was edited by nothing (use default setting) 12. job were submited and was aborted due to "too many attempt were made" or "time increament was larger than XXX"" .... 13. i have tried so many times and found ntg...so, what are the problems? the interaction? or..?? please kindly to reply in this post for those who know to solve the problem....thanks !!! url="file:///E:/abaqus%20cr4%20initial%20step/untitled.jpg" url="file:///E:/abaqus%20cr4%20initial%20step/initial%20step.cae" url="file:///E:/abaqus%20cr4%20initial%20step/initial%20step.jnl"
