What Material is the electromagnet on a cathoray tube

I assume you are talking about the ceramic like ferrite material that is used around the neck of the CRT.

Being its rather brittle it can cut and shaped with a grinding disk like you would a ceramic tile.

Most magnets can be cut or ground similarly as well. But some types create a rather toxic and flamible dust so they should be wet ground or cut.

A good answer but it is not a permanet magnet [Yoke as said by another poster] but A SOFT Magnatic material having almost zero residual magnetism; Shape moulded in a die, no need to ground.

For deflection coils & Hi-Freq Signal & Power transformers & coils; well above 2MHz

This is called the YOKE,,that is copper wound on ferrite forms,,and can with proper patience and tools be slipped off the CRT.

As mentioned by the other posters, the material is ferrite. It is normally only magnetized with the current. There might be some remanent magnetism in it but it doesn't have to be there. It is very brittle. With a diamond disc (e,g mini tool grinder) it cuts. You can also crack it, and it can fall to pieces when hammered. Same with ferrite magnets, samarium cobalt, strontium cobalt. Alnico magnets need machining. When splitting magnets, you make new small ones out of the pieces. Be careful - splinters can be awfully sharp.

ferrite -as any other ceramic material- is usually cut by circular diamond-coated blades.

If you have complicated shapes there is a wire saw (using diamond coated wire) with NC control available.

Ultrasonic cutting is used for thin sections or mass production.

Cracking and gluing again is sometimes useful.
