200-kW Mill Motor and 250-kVA Genset

03/16/2010 5:14 AM

Good day all. thanks for the valued input from you guys. The outcome on this was as follows: We opted for a 200kW VFD (WEG CFW 09) and managed to get the mill started off the genset without any problems. The only "problem" is that we could only run the mill at 80% "crushing capacity" and after that the generator starts to feel it. The client will be getting a larger genset at a later stage. Once again, thanks for all the help from CR4. regards, Leon.

may be slight impreovement by pf & harmonic control at VFD input. But not much.

250KVA x 0.8pf =200KW

Since you are able to start, may be the approx FL will be achievable, check the harmonics and pf. However going for a bit higher sized gen set is always the answer.

Did you try Korndorfer starter? The client may not need to replace the genset as the existing genset would suffice. Moreover the starting torque would be much better.
