What is the basic principle of Submerged Arc Welding? What are its advantages?

I use it for high quality high deposition welding process.. Very cost efficient both as a function of weld metal /hr and flux usage since it can be recycled.. go to the link below.. Miller has a good pdf booklet with easy to read descriptions

Another advantage is the base metal is cooled by the water, minimizing warping and a small heat affected zone (HAZ).

What water? Our submerged arc welding process involves wire feeding through the electrode into a pool of flux, which continuously pours out onto the part to conceal the arc. Are there some setups that include water cooling for the part? Typically, you need to preheat the part to ensure a quality weld. Rapid cooling introduces a thermal shock, creating cracks in the weld overlay.
