Hi! I'm looking for some help in learning about what is involved in moulding (molding?) rubber. My application is to add some molded rubber attachments to some rubber belting. More specifically, this is to make some replacement tracks for a long defunct rubber tracked vehicle. The track is made from 18" wide rubber belting with two rows of rubber lugs on the inside of the track that engage the track drive sprockets and keep the track on the bogie wheels. The lugs on the outside of the track would have to be moulded in the same way, but accuracy would be far less critical.
I can come up with a method of molding these lugs and apply heat and pressure to the track but I cannot seem to find any internet descriptions of how "tire" rubber is moulded. I have considered using pourable urethane "rubber" but the bonding between urethane and the belting rubber is a problem. The rubber belting I am considering using for a base belt is used in industry and is vulcanized together very simply. Can anyone point me in the right direction to find details of the technology? And where I might obtain materials?
Thanks,
Jon.
