Epson 25-Pin Serial Port Connection to Chiller Board

03/24/2010 6:34 AM

hello,

currently i am working on the chiller controller for printing purposes, the chiller board consist of TXD, RXD, +5V, gnd, DSR, and DTR only, any idea on which cable from 25 pin serial port to be connect to the controller to obtain a normal black and white printing only?

as i know

2 = TXD

3 = RXD

6 = DSR

7 = GROUND

20 = DTS

1 = CARRIER INPUT

IS IT RIGHT?

R232 and such like is a bit old hat, most stuff is USB now .
This stuff can be a right pain, I'd suggest you get a break out box, they are pretty cheap and will let you cross connect the various signals. 23 and 3 sometimes need swapping, as tx data from one end is rx data at the other. A scope is pretty much essential too.
Google RS232 Breakout box should find something.

I agree.A breakout box will identify the signals for you.Then connect as indicated by prior posting.

Hi,

one thing you can do, to test the RS232 and see what the chiller is sending you, and what the configuration on the chiller side is (baud rate, bits, parity) is, plug it into your PC and use the windows terminal program.

That will show you if you receive anything.

Have fun, Marc

Hi, Calvinlaw,

You didn't specify your chiller make or manufacture. If it's old enough to use RS232 it may have a proprietary pinout. It's probably the standard IEEE pinout, but it wouldn't hurt to check Google or call the maker and see if the manufacturer has manuals available with some information. They may even have somebody there that can help you make up the cable or (cross your fingers) they may have a cable available for a nominal fee .

Good luck with the project,

Logan

PS: All, sorry, I'm still in Guest mode I think. I have GOT to get my password reset!! I hate it when my memory drops bits and doesn't generate a CRC code...

TXD goes to RXD on opposite end.

Likewise with RXD to TXD on opposite end

Gnd goes straight through

DSR goes to RTS

RTS goes to DTR

DTR to DSR

TXD=Transmit Data

RXD=Receive Data

DRS= Data Set Ready

DTR= Data Terminal Ready
