Take care unless you want to waste days of effort, a week of waiting and enjoy frustration.
I tried to create a website using one of the many advertised 'free' web site creation and hosting sites which Google throws up.
I spent two days creating a nice site (or did it evolve) with their user friendly tools.
I'm not so naive as to expect a free lunch so wasn't surprised when I followed their 'task list' and found myself paying about $40 for 2 years, it's hardly going to break the bank.
That's when the wheels started falling off...
One item on their 'task list' was 'get 10 members' I got lured into 'inviting' people by E-mail to view my website, which of course never actually came up.
To cut a long story short I tried to purchase my domain name twice (a .co.uk one) Twice it failed, but with no feedback saying why and indeed an E-mail confirmation saying it had been successfull.
Trying to communicate with the admin was a nightmare and the online help chat thingy was very hit and miss, two people just failed to grasp the problem at all and told me to download Firefox and log out and back in, on the assumption that it was just my PC which couldn't find the site.
Anyhow, my money was put back into my account both times although about £38 went out and £36 came back each time (banks eh? Doncha love 'em)
So it cost me two days work, a week waiting around and a fiver to have no website.
I also got to look a complete pratt by inviting people to view a non exixtent site.
The reason given was that .co.uk names require the name and address of the applicant and errors in those fields can lead to a rejection (which, because they going via a 3rd party they weren't getting the error messages back to me)
D'uh? Of course I don't know my own name and address...twice???
Cheeses! I may persist and try to get the site up at some later date.
I hope this warning may be of some use to anyone thinking of setting up.

Thanks for the rant, Del. One of these days I have to do the same thing, I have a short list somewhere of the free sites that looked half decent. I'm duly reminded, expect to fail (make sure you have a sixpack ready)...
There is a UK outfit called 123-reg.co.uk who are pretty good for setting up domains and web hosting. I've used them for setting up two domains and their prices are reasonable with a choice of packages from £2.99 per annum. They send reminders in good time and I've always had a good service. For Hosting and business broadband we use demon.co.uk and the transfers and email links were easy to set up, (two sites are with demon and one remains with 123-reg).
Building the actual web site is another matter altogether - like plaiting fog!!! Try JOOMLA, this is a free web design site which seems to be generally enjoyed by a growing band of web designers.
that's funny.. I hope not offensive tho. I didn't mean anything by the remark about scots, only the climate (so like our own) is rugged and.. foggy. The scots are a tough lot to survive there, and skillful and resourceful as well... so if fog can be braided, they'd know how to do it. (Now, if they were to sell the braided fog, well that would be different - although honestly, I think I would sell it myself if tourists would buy it.... )
Alas, then, I will never plait fog. I am incapable of drinking a whole bottle of Single Malt in one sitting, on fear of my death from it!
I did have a lovely bottle of Islay Malt if I remember it, drunk with fine friends one time, but over a week... it tasted like it was made with bog water. Nasty hangover attached, I was wary of that.... But the taste of a fine malt is surely unique.
Del, I went all through your site and it is perfect! Nice job. Every link works. Nice video of your son shooting the hazel bow as well.
I notice that the page length for each type of bow is just right! (brevquot at work? )
I want a chinese crossbow. (whine, whimper)
I tried to grow yew but they didn't come. My hazels are pretty small as well, how big around for a bowstave? My ash trees are still striplings. Large alders seem completely unsuitable, I can crack a stave in two with my bare hands (uncouth wood burning type that I am).
Can you make a bow of apple wood? The hares do strip the bark in winter, leaving but staves.
Congrats on the new site. Maybe I will check out google for a freebie as well.
Glad you like it, 2.5" diameter is about a minimum. I made a 1 hour bow from a 2.5" branch I found, I'll write it up on the site.
Apple would probably make a bow (they say that fruit woods are generally good).
Del
