Depends,

In northern and southern california, ISCET certs are required by wastewater treatement departments and some water departments. They use these certs for a number of reasons. First, to maintain a common understood level of training on a written multiple choice proctored exam. Second to provide some level of justification for their civil service wage increases by providing documentation of their expertise. Third, to increase skill and safety awareness in the workplace and reduce insurance costs with investment in training.

Clean water departments have the CA DHS Water Treatment and Water Distribution Certifications. These are exams given by the State of California. These are required. Wastewater have the Wastewater certifications, also required. ISCET is an additional qualification recently required by many wastewater facilites.

ISCET is an independent organization. Some corporations look for ready made 'courses in the box' instead of developing their own programs. Oil companies and other manufacturing facilites adopt these programs and examinations for the same reasons as stated above.

All these organizations pay to have their employees trained and certified ISCET. To invest in the training yourself is expensive. If you are job hunting, every little bit helps. If you have a certification with no work experience I guess it depends on how the department hiring you percieves you with that certification and/or how you present yourself during the interview process. If you have work experience with the certification and you are looking for a job, it is certainly going to be an advantage.

Technical jobs pay well depending on the type of job and the duties of the job. Professional certifications can add to your skillset and knowledge of your job. One of the benefits of ISCET is that it is internationally recognized in various manufacturing industries throughout the United States.
