What are Box Girder bridges and how safe are they ? Are they safer than Cable-stay bridges and Pre-stress Beam Bridges ?

Much like anything that is designed, constructed or fabricated, they are very safe indeed, if properly designed, constructed, fabricated, and maintained.

This link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Box_girder_bridge has good general information and discussion regarding box girder construction, and the general limits of such.
