Industrial Induction Heater Coil

03/31/2010 11:54 AM

Dear Gurus ,

I am having a problem with the industrial induction heater.Recently due to interlock problem , a metal bar hit the induction coil.( made of copper tube )The coil broken and the cooling water started to leak.

Due to tight schedule , i need to run the machine as soon as possible. I am planning to fabricate the coil by my self. The frequency is 108Khz , voltage is 100v , Amp = 9.8A.It looks very simple ,just three turns of copper tube.Is there any important parameter that need to be considered before fabricating the coil.

Thank you.

I am not a guru, but roll yourself a nice reproduction coil and install it.

Sorry I don't have anything helpful to offer.

This sounds like an interesting little project. Would you consider taking a few photographs and posting them here? Also, could you tell us what is being heated? 9.8A seems like a low value for many applications.

Thanks,

Bruce

Just make sure the turns of the coil do not touch each other or you will have to start again. I have 3 drawers full of coils that I have made myself.

We've used home made coils in the past, never had a problem. We used to insulate them with sleeving to make sure the coils never touched.

It shouldn't be a problem making your own induction work coils. We make them here weekly out of square copper tubbing. Just make sure the spacing between the coils remains close to equal or you will get hot spots in your work when it passes through the coil. Some work coils are encased in a ceramic material to stop the shorts that caused your problem. They are quite a bit more expensive and we just make a few more of the cheaper bare copper ones to get through. Make sure the inside diameter is the same as the old coil as well. If the I.D. is too small you will get more heat in your work and you will suffer more failures due to the work piece comming in contact with the coil. If it too large you will get less heat in your work piece.

Best of luck.
