I think you can patent everything new and help to fill up the gigantic file spaces. When it comes to producing a product, you will need to refer to your specific invention. If you join existing patented things, you will need a intellectual property arrangement ( kind of business deal) with each of the originators. In the model the silicon cell will need to get rid of the heat generated, in the first place. The junction will otherwise, not perform well or be damaged. PV cells need light, not heat.

Much better than a song to the sun (the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun") would have been a few calculations and valid concepts. The Pyrenees heliostat has been around for quite some time; this is nothing really new.

Focusing the solar energy to generate high temperatures does offer some thermodynamic advantages. But hardly anyone seems to mention Carnot cycle efficiency in these schemes; you just get marketing hype.

A patent has to be novel not just putting two things together, unless they are things which one would not normally think of putting together.
So a 4 slice bread toaster isn't patentable because it's just a logical extension of a 2 or 3 slice toaster. But a toaster which toasts a bagette and at the same time cooks and injects a Tolouse sausage into it would be (Damn, you havn't read that ok?)

Now, if somebody combined a PV cell with a thermoelectric generator, with the hot PV as the "hot side" and the shaded underside as the "cool side" you might have something.

In a good array the sun can generate efficiently 95% convertible to a good hot water heat exchanger. While the best solar panels end up with a few percents (6-8). That is why you need so many. Is it worth the effort to shade the heat collector with a solar panel? The heat exchanger should get max heat, while the solar panel doesn't like it too much. On the other hand you'll need minimal 10 times the surface in solar panels, to generate the same power equivalent. (regular hot water panels). A water cooled solar panel will not make that of a difference I guess.

Hmm. . . it's more moving parts, but what about using a solar hot water heat collector to boil the working fluid in a low-temperature Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) machine? Yeah, that is very true, not just more powerful but so many uses and functions. Solar power are very great..

I found out after posting this that the gentleman in Israel has some type of cooling system running through the back of the PV device to take the heat away and he just uses the concentrated sunlight as the main energy source but the bi product would be hot water or what ever he chose as his coolent.
