I believe you can download software online that will enable you to view them but not able to make changes.

Vector files from images are made using tracing software. I prefer Corel Trace.

You can try AutoCAD RASTER. Insert your images and then save your files as DXF.

This was taken from my Acad2000 help menu for creating DXF files.

You can also hit F1 to view all information.

slide file

A file that contains a raster image or snapshot of the display on the graphics screen. Slide files work with Autodesk Animator Pro® and have the file extension .sld. (MSLIDE, VSLIDE)

Above is Animator Pro. This is what you could use.

Here is some info. on saving as a DXF file extension.

You can save a drawing in Release 12, Release 13, Release 14, or AutoCAD 2000 in DXF format. DXF is a text file containing drawing information that can be read by other CAD systems or programs. If you work with consultants who use a CAD program that accepts DXF files, you can share a drawing by saving it in DXF format.
You can specify a precision of up to 16 places for floating-point numbers and save the drawing in either ASCII or binary format. If you do not want to save the entire drawing, you can save selected objects. This feature helps you remove extraneous material when you want to save only specific blocks or areas of the drawing.

You can also save attribute information in a DXF format file. For more information about attribute extract files, see ATTEXT in the Command Reference.

To create a DXF file

1 From the File menu, choose Save As.
2 In the Save Drawing As dialog box, enter a file name.
3 Under Save As Type, select the DXF (*.dxf) version you want, and then choose Save.

You can also choose Options and then DXF Options to specify format, precision, and whether to select specific objects or write the entire file.
AutoCAD automatically appends the file extension .dxf to the file name.

Command line SAVEAS
NOTE If you create Release 12 DXF files, be advised that the header variables DWGCODEPAGE, TREEDEPTH, and PINSBASE have been removed. If you need these variables, you can edit atlast.dxt to restore them.

Take a look at the MTEXT command also. You can bring in text and possibly some image material.

Images such as jpegs are composed of pixels. They are RASTER images.

DXF files are composed of lines, arcs, and in post r14, splines also. DXF is a VECTOR format.

The two formats are not interchangable.

Here at Creative Edge we manually trace raster images in AutoCad or other CAD software for cutting with our water jets. We have not found an auto-tracing system that produces acceptable results.

You did not mention the final product. You might receive more help if you do.

I was converting .pdf files to text files and bringing them into an Autocad drawing today. This can be done by saving a .pdf file as text, using the adobe snap shot feature to create a copy, then pasting it directly into a cad drawing.
