Strainer Mesh

Standard Wire mesh of 40 SIZE having wire diameter of 0.011 " and Opening of 0.014". It can with stand how much pressure drop across mesh with out any back support of perforated plate or other.

You should specify the diameter of the basket without which it is not possible to make any guess let alone the caculations.

A plain cloth may tear at 50 psi differential.For a 4 " dia basket this may go to 150 psi.

It is assumed that the wire dia is uniform.

The concern with an unsupported mesh screen for a Y-strainer or basket strainer would be the screen material collapsing under high differential pressures. This would be more of a problem as the screen becomes more clogged.

Johnson Screens use to have this type of information. Do not know if they have it any more. Its no longer on there website

The company I deal with is called Mueller Steam Specialties, www.muellersteam.com. They have various different charts in their Support - Technical Center section, including pressure drop charts, Cv values and clogging curves.
