The problen is I have the water heater tank out of Motor Home Last winter the tank didnt get complety drained. It broke around the thermostat. I have silver sodered before in repairing copper to brass.I used sil-flux to clean the joint and used silver soder. Will the soder work on the tank?

Well now. This bears no resemblance to the first question, does it?

We are no longer applying silver solder "over an aluminum weld". We are repairing a pressure vessel. Maybe, with the proper flux, and some operator skill.

The flux costs about $25.00. Try it. The tank's junk now anyway, isn't it?

Did you even look at the web site?

Yes we are applying silver soder over a aluminum weld. The pressure is reduced by a reducer on the supply hose. The crack is about a 1" long. The trank is still in good condition. Is my procedure good enough to repair the crack?

If the melting point of silver is higher than that of aluminum, this will run into a problem. It's "solder," not "soder," by the way. If you are familiar with a "reducing flame," you can oxy-acetylene weld aluminum, though other processes are easier and better.

I don't think silver solder will stick to aluminum. Once I found a flux that allowed me to soft solder aluminum terminals onto copper wire, maybe that would work.

Usually only tig or mig welding will work on aluminum, and if it is corroded, forget it.
