One More Thing On Bridge Bearing

04/21/2010 8:18 AM

If the (bearing) element is to be continuously welded, the "Fluorogold" must be recessed (or lipped) ¼" ( as a minimum) on each of those sides. This recess is not necessary for stitch welds.

Do I have to translate 'lipped" coz i have no idea of what 'lipped" mean. equvalent to "recessed"? What function does this "recess' serve? Your help is much appreciated.

My GUESS is that continuous welding builds up enough heat to cause the adhesive bond to fail, and the lip would then retain the bearing in place?

Recessed defines the condition. Lipped is confusing and redundant and, to me, would indicate that you are adding material to create the lip. Recess means removal of material to create the, "recess".

This material has got many ,as u pointed out , reduntant words, that might cause trouble for translators but not necessarily end-users. Well, i have highlighted those confusing places ( which is my standard practice ) and hope there is no info that might "get lost in translation".
