I have a 1988 Taurus with anexcellent 3.8L engine and transmission. The electricals (radio etc.) are failing. Can anyone provide a list or source of car bodies I could transplant into without difficulty. Model and Year would be appreciated.
Your drive train will fit any other Ford, Lincoln or Mercury that used the same engine and AXOD or AXODE type transmission or that had the option for that engine and transmission.
Likely any of the cars from the late 80's and newer could have it retrofit into it but electrical mods may be needed due to wiring harness design changes or additions for the newer models.
I have the same car. My wife got it hot, and I mean hot. We towed it back home, and tore the engine down. The only reason I did this is because it has a pristine body and interior.I rebuilt the engine, and it runs fine. But, the windshield wiper come on when ever they want to. The radio comes on, then goes off when it wants to. the dome lights stay on all the time.Sometimes, the windows roll down, or up. I changed out the wiring harness from another Tauras same year from junk yard. I had to change a few sensors as the gauges read wrong, but now everything is back as it should be.The gauges read wrong before I changed the wiring harness. I got my wife a Ford Focus. That thing is wicked. Its like a go cart, with luxuries. It will turn on a dime and give you change. I would put it up against any v8 or v6.Way too much car for my wife.Roll the windows down at 70 mph, you will change lanes before you know it.

That engine/ transmission combination is a risky proposition. We owned two, and both had head gasket overheating problems. Lost the engine on one, and finally got Ford to repair the second as part of a major recall for that problem.
Transmission failed at 60,000 miles. Required rebuild for over $2K. Low gear piston as I recall.
These problems were common. The Aerostar Vans used the same combination and had the same problems.
Ford did get some flak on their AXOD & AXODE transmissions not lasting as long as they should have. One of their updates did involve changing the clutch piston from a cast aluminum piston to a stamped steel one because it would crack and the car wouldn't move.
Unless you are a mechanic, and/or do not want to use this vehicle on long drives after the swap, SELL the drivetrain, and buy a running vehicle!
That's the commonsense answer. Now for MY advice!
If I had this drivetrain and a garage or driveway like I do, I would use this drivetrain in a trike, or even a reverse trike design vehicle, as I have done. You sound as lf you already have another running automobile, so.... if you have access to a welder, grinder, handtools, and a sawzall, then what the heck! Try it!! and if it does not work, you can always sell the drivetrain to someone for a more resonable price than the junkyard, and you would have gained some valuable mechanical insight!
All things are possible. All it takes is time and money. If you want to do it as and experiment or a hobby than the consumption of the two get a little fuzzy.
If main problem is the wiring get another harness from a wrecking yard same year, model, etc. This is not like the old days when you could mix and match. Not possible. Not worth the time. On the harness find a car that is still running but power train is defective and if everything works use the wiring to repair yours much and you may be confident there is no problem with the wiring.
