Outlook 2007 Problem

04/26/2010 1:35 PM

My unread email directory in outlook 2007 does not show any new emails as they are received by outlook. The emails go straight to the inbox, whereas they used to come to both the inbox as well as the unread email directories. This happened about a week ago, without me changing any settings in the internet explorer or the outlook. Can somebody advise me how to fix the problem so that I always receive any new emails in the unread directory of outlook as well as the inbox.

hello jamil,

you can do any of the following:

1. try system restore to go set back your system 1 week, or more, before this behavior showed up.

2. leave it alone and just get used to it.

3. forget about Outlook 2007 and use Mozilla Thunderbird instead. this is the option I recommend. just disable Outlook from downloading anymore new eMails. and just use it to refer to previous communication, but use T-bird for all current and future mails. T-bird v.3 has addons such as calendar, appointments, skins and other features that make it better than Outlook. and, it's FREE!

unfortunately, Outlook's .pst file, as of now, AFAIK, cannot be imported into T-bird.

good luck! cheers!

Thank you for your prompt reply. My ISP provider got the problem fixed. But I will consider using Mozillafox in the future as I have heard it is more robust.

Something I just found out that may be of help.

Is your machine new and does it have a trial copy of Office 2010 on the hard drive that has not been activated?

I discovered this problem with the laptop I just bought that was upgraded or as MS says downgraded to XP Pro at the Vendor. It had an Office 2007 trial copy and I installed Office 2003. Everything worked except Outlook. As I searched around I found an obscure forum with an article about the 2007 trying to automatically take over the 2003. It was suggested that the 2007 trial version be removed, the 2003 be uninstalled and then reinstalled. I will be trying it later this week and will keep you informed. Maybe one of our IT Gurus can expand on this.

I really appreciate your effort for the advice, however my ISP fixed the problem. I have a full version of Microsoft Office 2007 and this includes Outlook 2007.

You may have email rules set that will divert the email before setting the read flag.

It moves email into other folders (or not) and you dont see them as unread email.

H Jamil

There used to be an SCANPST.EXE file put out by Microsoft, to uncorrupt the files in Outlook, this sometimes occurs when the PST file becomes too large. Set the archive that may be overloading the PST file.

Thanks for your suggestion, but for now the problem has been fixed by my ISP and things are once again working. However if anything like this happens again, I will consider your advice. Thanks once again.
