<...the advantages/disadvantages of using LED lights...>

They are merely options based on preferences of style and taste.

led vs. incandescent vs. fluorescent.

LEDs have two great advantages: long life and high efficacy (input in watts/ output in lumens) (Easily Dimmable also) Great to use where there are no quality of light issues.

led has many quality of light issues:flicker, extreme intensity of light (staring at the LEDs is not pleasant due to the extreme brightness of the bulbs,) very narrow beam, color range is intense and limited compared to incandescent lighting.

fluorescent has two great advantages: high efficacy in most cases and casts its light over a broad area in the proper fixtures.

fluorescent has two distinct traits over incandescent lighting. The fluorescent bulbs have a moderately long life compared to incandescent but still much less than led. Fl. bulbs also bulb prices compared to life span is good for fluorescent lighting and much better than incandescent.

Fluorescents have a few bad qualities. They can cause interference, flicker, make noise, and the limited color range makes for poor quality light. Hardest to dim.

Incandescent is the best quality of light for color choice, spectrum issues, make-up, video and photography, and many others. Great color range from treating the glass, changing the internal atmosphere of the bulb, or changing the element. It rarely flickers (MV and HPS fixtures do have issues with flicker) little noise unless dimmed. Easy to replace.

Incandescents have short life, low efficacy, produce heat, and require lots of maintenance due to lots of bulb changing.
