Usually toward the front and the rear, a bit closer in the front.

Is this a trick question?

Ok, do exactly as I say...

Gently place your hands, palm up, under the front bumper of the vehicle and lift.

Once you have turned the truck on it's back you will notice, among other things(like fluid leaking out of many orifices, yours not excluded), the round black rubber thingies that spin. These are called tires (tyres in Europe).

You will then look for the long metal bar that connects these "tires". That long metal bar is an axle.

You may now turn your truck over again and begin your inspection.

Good luck

And may I wish you much happiness as a Wal-Mart greeter.

You guys are so bad, the op must not have google. A 'straight' truck usually has only two axles, one for the steering wheels and one for the driving wheels.

Well,

It looks like, with the exception of #3 firehouse humor, they are all on par with the question.

" A 'straight' truck usually has only two axles, one for the steering wheels and one for the driving wheels."

And a gay truck bends?

You can't hold me responsible for replies I make. There are posters here that go out of their way to force me to say these things.

I hope our person that is planning to obtain a CDL has a little more knowledge than not knowing where the axles are on a truck. Maybe I'm taking this too seriously , but the axles are where the wheels are mounted to the vehicle. Could this be a person contemplating aquiring a CDL for a school bus liscense? If so, I would apologize for not taking your question more seriously and having a CDL would be more than willing to answer any questions relating to the pretrip inspection.
