proximity switches work when some object is moved across the switch without physical touch it induces a pulse the no. of time u pass the object the no. of times it gives the pulse, for eg it is used to measure speed in rpm with help of proximity switch with digital decoder circuits.

limit switch needs physical activation and used to limit the movement of the object for eg like limiting turning of the crane. it is a simple switch with cut in and cut out contact

Proximity switch detects without touching metal object by detecting magnetism or using optical sensing etc.

limit switches operate by contact with the item you wish to limit.

Although there are none contact limit switchs, So you could use a proximty switch to act as a limit switch.

so the real answer i suppose is it depends on the use.

Sir you are right. i want to know that is there any proximity switch whose output is SPDT. I have seen many switches which are proximity but their output is either npn or pnp. but i want a proximity switch whose output is SPDT contact output.
