Time Required for Heating 1 kg of Iron

What is the time required to heat 1 kg. of Iron from 35 degrees celcius to 1250 degrees celcius by Furnace oil ?

It depends on what shape the iron is, how fast the fuel is burned, heat leakage from the furnace, etc., and whether furnace oil burns hotter than 1250° Celsius.

Use the formula Q = m C ΔT to work out the required energy (J). m = mass, C = specific heat, ΔT = temp diff.

Get some heat figures for burning oil (W/kg), work out a burning rate (kg/s) multiply by some guessed efficiency, subtract some guessed losses. divide to get time.
