Check Valve - Solid Stellite

05/06/2010 1:24 AM

In wafer type check valve, the Plate material required is SS316 as per VMS. But one of the vendor offers as Solid stellite.

Please advice whether we can accept Solid stellite.

Why not ask the vendor about the difference? Maybe stellite would be better for the application than SS316? What does the as yet unmentioned duty actually require?

the stellite is better than 316ss, so you'd better ask the vendor why choose the higher grade material.

What about the brittleness (which is taken care of by the base steel otherwise) ?

Stellite should be a better alloy than SS316 in the respect of corrosion and wear resistance. Solid Stellite has proven its application as a better material for engine valve service. The service expectation of engine valve should be more severe than the plate in a check valve.

Solid Stellite will be a better option than SS 316 . No doubt in that . The main thing is why is vendor offering such high grade when SS 316 has been selected in the VDS ( vms ) . Could u specify the sservice please. it seems to be intresting. Is the Valve swing type?...

Stellite is the most expensive, but worth the money if you have a very corrosive or erosive environment, like superheated steam or exhaust that must be throttled. For normal service,a cheaper SS may be used.
