Cast vs. Stamped

05/08/2010 9:57 AM

Why are the cast burners for appliances (not used any more) far better than the stamped ones they use today? Gas burning appliances are all made at sea level and the burners are rarely "optimized for altitude". They waste so much gas, and the new burners with induction fan motors need maintenance. (costly). Give me an old style burner any day.

Be careful when you step down off your soapbox.

Profit trumps engineering more often than not.

the cast ones are no better, they just cost more since the holes are drilled.

Altitude adjustments are made with the mixture collar.

The stamped ones work properly and pass all the tests, and gas devices are well regulated.

Certainly not any better as far as function goes, but more durable, which could be considered better.
