What happens if D.C is applied to the transformer primary?

No current and voltage in the secondary. After sometime winding will burn.

The circuit protective device operates and turns off the power, Captain.

Dear Sir,

Have you heard the term- Inductance- as this is the principle on

which the Transformer works. Theoritically the primary current is decided by the

( applied emf - induced emf) / circuit impedence. The impedance depends on the

frequency applied. When you apply DC voltage there will be no frequency (Zero )

and the primary winding will act as a pure resistance circuit and will cause huge

amount of current to flow. If you want to measure resistance inject very small

DC voltage into the primary.

Manroop. Chennai.

This is what will happen with DC voltage.
