Cupper Busbar Current Capacity

05/19/2010 7:48 AM

Dear Sir,

Incoming current 10000A from five gas genset and connect a comman CU bus bar. Outgoing 10000A also from that bus bar. What is the bus bar current capacity?

Must be greater than 10KA and also depends on short circuit capacity...........

It's more complicated than the question you've asked. Rather than in and out, there's 10kA that goes through the bus bar. If there is the potential for a higher fault current, you need to know what the fault current would be. Once you know those parameters, then you can calculate the appropriate bus bar cross-section required to handle the current and have the appropriate temperature rise. Typically, bus bars are designed for a 30degC temp rise from ambient.
