Exchanger Ppiping with Cooling Water

05/20/2010 10:18 AM

In Exchanger piping, with cooling water supply & return lines as inlet and out from channel side of shell & tube exchangers, i have following two doubts :

1. Which end needs to be fixed & which one should be sliding

2. Do we need to put the breakable flange joint??

1. The "Fixed" saddle needs to be the one closest to the CW risers from underground. If you put the "Fixed" saddle at the other end you could damage and break the risers or the UG headers.

2. No, you do not NEED to install any extra flanges or joints. Don't add cost and don't add potential future leak points.

Reason for selecting the FIxed end nearer to the u/g cooling line : to restrict the expansion of the exchnager towards the u/g (natural anchor).

is there any other reason for selecting the fixed end on the u/g lines??

Reason for not providing the breakable flanges : there is already a valve connection so in case of dismantling, we can always disconnect from the valve flange.

Is there any other reason for not providing the breakale joint.
