Test Piece for Hardness Testing

Good day,

If i were to get a sample for hardness testing in a ductile iron, can i get a test piece at the gating near the casting itself? will i have error on reading the hardness values especially on leeb scale?

Since the gating is of same batch and material of the casting, there will not be any variations in the hardness values.
