Project Ideas

05/26/2010 5:07 AM

I know my question won't suite everyone.

I just want to ask, as being a Freshman what are the different projects that I should do because my branch is Mechanical engineering?

Every answer would be important for me.

It doesn't matter what we think - you should pursue what you feel passionate about, and what is within the guidelines of your school.

Here are some pie-in-the-sky ideas:

  • automotive (suspensions, engines, chassis, ...)
  • heat transfer (heat pumps, geothermal, ...)
  • alternative energy (wind, wave/tidal, ...)
  • aeronautics (planes, space shuttles, ...)
  • robotics (manufacturing, remote medical, ...)
  • nanotechnology (manufacturing computer chips, ...)
  • nuclear technology (plant design, ...)

Hello,

There is absolutely no problem in doing Stirling engine project

Please have look at

http://www.solarfire.org/Rider-Ericsson-Sterling-Engine

You can do small project something similar to it.

You can purchase the Stirling engine parts from me and assemble it, test it, analyze it, compare the theoretical / practical results.

I will provide you all the support.

*There is no mention about your status- you are an under graduate student in mech engg or post graduate or a diploma level student or just passed out graduate seeking for projects for entrepreneurship or just interested in doing final year project work.

Based on your inputs, the members can advice you better.

On assumption that you are a final year B.E student the following criteria applies.

*Do you have a faculty guide ?

* How many students will be involved ?

* What is the budget expected.

* Speciality services available at your institute

* Possible sponsorship available.

* Your individual project or group project? and so on

For this level solar based projects should be deal and will fall within your budget.

* You take up a deep study into solar power equipments, like a good literature survey. Then study the temperatures development using various reflectors like flat, V shaped, semi curved, parabolic etc. You can collect waste materials like metal sheets, broken auto mobile windows and so on.You can use waste thermocol for insulation. Go for a good quality black paint.Based on your trials mount a solar heater to your roof. It should serve the purpose of theory as well as a hands on experience on solar utensils and fall within your budget. research is good hobby. My best wishes

Part of your project... is the ability to think of a project. It shows that you've investigated what has been done by others and exercises your analytical ability to either build on what has been done or do something that hasn't. Asking here is cheating yourself out of this opportunity.
