Tramp Iron R emoval from Conveyor

05/26/2010 5:44 AM

Does anyone have creative ways of removing tramp iron from a coal conveyor, other than the traditional overhead magnet and under conveyor metal detector ?

Has there been anything new on the market ?

Why deviate from the simplest ($$$) method to remove these metal problems???

If it isn't broke, why fix it???

There are other more expensive and less effective methods. But why? Isn't the concept to make more money, not spend more?

This is certainly not a new method but I like using a magnetic head wheel. The good material goes over the head wheel and down the product chute. The magnetic stuff hangs on the head wheel a little longer and goes down a chute just under the conveyor. The magnetic material is released as the belt separates from the magnetic head wheel on the bottom of the conveyor.

This method works best when material is evenly deposited on the conveyor belt and not to deep for the magnet to "reach".

That system would work except that coal conveyors are fitted with head pulley scrapers and 2 or 3 return scrapers that would discharge the metal into the coal product chute. The scrapers would be destroyed.
