Well, your car is 16 years old...

How much money can you / should you dump into this car?

<sigh> How many miles are on the car?

..Three factors.

Are you getting fuel to that cylinder? Are you getting spark at THAT plug? Do you have compression?

The answer to one of these three questions is NO. Now you need to figure out which one it is.

Suppose we try this; If you remove the #5 spark plug and it is wet with gasoline that tells you it's getting fuel. If you take one of the old spark plugs and lay it on the engine where it can get a good connection to ground with the #5 spark plug wire plugged onto it ,even with the engine running, if you see spark at that plug you know you have spark.

From a previous post which was right on the money, you know you have two out of three checks done. Depending on mileage, condition of engine etc., I guess that leaves the third possibility open. If you wanted to check that , it would entail a compression check. The best way to get an accurate result is with a compression tester. There are shortcut ways to check for some compression , but not knowing your capabilities I cannot offer them because it might not be the safest thing for you to attempt.

Let us know how you make out on this. Thanks.
