API 600 Trims? Help!

05/27/2010 11:05 AM

Recently we got some gate valves with Trim 10 & A216 WCB body. The supplier told us that the disc is WCB with a SS316 overlay and can be considered as Trim 10; is this true ? the trim chart shows the disc as SS316 - has the disc to be completely made of SS316 or an overlay would be sufficient - please advise ....

API 600 specifies the "trim" as: the stem, the gate seat surfaces, the body (or seat ring) seal surfaces and the backseat stem contact surface.

Table 13 - Basic Trim Materials: Seating Surfaces Combination Number 10 = 18Cr-8Ni-Mo

And further states (Table 12 - Materials for Parts) Gate = Steel, at least equal in corrosion resistance to that of the body material.

So the information that you have provided leads to that valve qualifying to API 600.
