ID Fan Damper Controls

06/03/2010 1:10 PM

We have a ID Fan on a 750MW coal plant for the FGD system that is controlled by a DCS system for the opening and closing of dampers for air flow based on the boiler. Some think that ID fan damper contols IVC linkage should have a mechanical characterization rather than DCS.

Any history?

Well, as long as this post is all about PP acronyms:

You really should consider DCS-controlled VFD for not only the ID but any FD fans as well. You'll get much better flow with less over-all pressure drop across the system. An inch or millimeter saved here or there could reduce the parasitic load of the plant significantly. On a 750MW dirt-burner such as yours. the savings would be considerable.
