Start here:

or

http://www.aggsoft.com/rs232-pinout-cable/serial-cable-connections.htm

Only took about 3 seconds (2.7s typing and 0.3s Google search) to find these links.

Thanks for answering. I was looking for the DB15 connector with 15 pins but on two rows ie 8 on top and 7 on bottom not like the one you sent me. This connection is required between a ups and the PC.

I edited my post to add the second link which does have a DB15 in 2 rows as you describe. Try the second link and scroll down a little. Good luck.

RS232 started as a DB25 pin connector standard for the connection between a teletype terminal and a modem. While many systems have adopted the Ad-Hoc standard found on many DB9 connectors, there are many systems that have a DB9 connector that are not RS232 electronics and many DB9 connectors with RS232 electronics that do not conform to the Ad-Hoc standard. I do not know of even an Ad-Hoc standard for putting RS232 signals onto a DB15. You will have to locate the information about the signal connections from the maker of the DB15 module.

Your are right I find myself in the same problem you have to go back in the lab to locate the information about the signal connection from the maker of the module.Somme Ad-HOC standard guive hothead.

As Redfred has pointed out, DB15 is NOT a standard RS232 connector. If the manufacturer has developed a non-standard serial interface, you need information from the manufacturer to determine proper wiring- and you need to assure yourself that the manufacturer has also not toyed with other aspects of the standard- like voltage levels. Typically, when a company deviates from a standard, they have a reason (sometimes, the reason is nothing more than a method of forcing you to buy their special adapter/cable rather than hooking up your own).

In my experience, 15 pin is generally a video connection...

Hello,

I've found pinouts.ru to be a most helpful link when making custom cables for my APC SmartUPS. Below is a representative link to get you in:

http://pinouts.ru/DevicesCables/apc_back_pro_cable_pinout.shtml

Don't forget to re-install your PowerChute software to verify the cable!

Best to you,GLB

DB15 sounds wrong... DB15 connectors are Game Port/Joy-Stick on computers. Are you sure its a DB15 and not a DB25? I have yet to find a UPS with a DB15 serial link cable for power management. I have seen 9-pin D-sub on older cables and USB for newer cables. What is the model of the UPS if it is a DB15?
